People are leaving Canada! But why?
When people want to go to Canada for a better life, the citizens of that country are migrating to other countries – continents. In a study with sensational data, the statistical agency Stats-Texas Canada said that more than 15 percent of people who immigrated to the country left Canada within 20 years. Statistics Canada has published such a report based on data collected for 35 years from 1982 to 2017.
It is known that more than 25 percent of immigrants from countries such as Taiwan, the United States, France, Hong Kong and Lebanon have returned to their home countries within 20 years of entering Canada.
. Moreover, there are issues like not being able to integrate the labor market, death of a relative in one’s own country, unfavorable climate, not being able to adapt to the language and culture.
Moreover, Statistics Canada estimates that as of 2016, nearly 4 million Canadians were living in other countries. Even if they pay taxes according to the rules, they cannot vote in provincial elections. Also deprived of benefits like health care. As a result, an average of 2 to 3 million immigrants enter Canada every year. But more than 25 percent of immigrants are living Canada within 20 years of entering Canada.
Now analysts are looking into the possibilities of how current Canadians can be used for the benefit of the country.

[3] According to the Government of Canada immigration agency, 92,000 people left Canada in 2022. Next year in 2023 this number will exceed 94 thousand. And this year it is expected to exceed one lakh. Before this, 64 and 66 thousand people left Canada in 2021 and 22. And in 2019, the year before Corona, this number was 77 thousand 751 people.
[4] In 2023, a maximum of 42 thousand 454 people left Canada from the province of Ontario, 18 thousand 553 people from British Columbia, 13 thousand 818 people from Quebec and 12 thousand 650 people from Alberta. (BBC)
[5] Immigrants consider leaving Canada within a few years of arriving, mainly due to unemployment and lack of employment. And even if they get a job, they are left with no choice as the salary or income is not commensurate with the cost of living in Canada. Besides, the boys and girls studying in the universities here also leave after getting good paying job offers in USA and European countries. (AP 05-06-2024)
[6] According to the Urban Living Institute of Canada, the monthly cost of living for a middle-class person in an urban area is 4,950 Canadian dollars (Tk 4,24,794). It’s too much for newcomers to Canada.
[7] House prices have also nearly doubled in the last 2 years. The price of a house in Toronto 2 years ago was 400,000, now it is 7 to 750,000 or even 800,000 Canadian dollars (1 Canadian dollar = 85.81 Taka). Apart from that, the number of immigrants coming, the number of house rent is not available. A house that used to house 4/5 families now houses 8/9 families.
[8] The number of homeless people in Canada is also increasing rapidly. Although exact statistics are not available, the huge concentration of homeless people in downtown Toronto shows how dire it is. (Guardian 05-06-2024)
[9] In addition, people from hot countries cannot tolerate extreme cold. The temperature here sometimes drops as low as a minus 33 degrees Celsius.
[10] There is also the lack of medical appointments due to physical problems or illnesses. Because of common diseases, immigrants do not have the opportunity to see a doctor. Sometimes it takes two months to get the serial.
In short, those who come to Canada and whose hopes are not met, or whose dreams are not fulfilled and who do not see the possibility of meeting in the future, are leaving Canada.
Normally the work opportunities for foreign students in Canada are limited. This limit was lifted during the Corona epidemic. This measure was a temporary arrangement and was helpful for those who lost their income due to the closure of restaurants, bars, shops, etc. At least that’s what the authorities announced. But people heard something else. They heard “Job opportunities are plentiful when you enter Canada as a student.” With this comes the conclusion that “it is necessary to go to Canada, even if the country incurs huge debts.”
Because once you can enter Canada, it is possible to earn a lot of money by working. You can repay the loan within a short time. Naturally, it stimulated those interested in quick cash than education. And many brokerage businesses quickly sprung up to help this class of people (both legally and illegally). The result was a sudden influx of desi people (common noun for people from South Asia). Although many of them enter Canada on student visas, the motive is to make a quick buck.
Government has withdrawn the temporary arrangements imposed during the epidemic. That means, work hours for students will be cut off. Along with this, the police are going to various educational institutions and collecting information about foreign students, who are not attending classes regularly. As a result, those who were abusing the opportunity to enter as foreign students were in danger. This is fueling up the the number of students living Canada.
Government is also identifying the educational institutes, which made a lot of money in a short period of time by bringing in many foreign students. Their professionalism and quality of education is now questionable. Many recruiters are also saying that it will be difficult to get a good job in Canada with a degree from these educational institutions in the future. Government can also take action against these institutions, only time will tell.
Let me tell you something interesting about this. A few days ago, in one such educational institution, at the end of the semester, many foreign students did poor in their exams. Instead of studying, spending time in various odd-jobs regularly chasing cash has worsen the situation. After that they protested against the educational institution for some time due to poor results. It is a funny incident, even more shameful because most of the protestors are subcontinental. More specifically, the people of India. In the eyes of the larger Canadian society, there is no difference between Multan, Lahore, Amritsar, Delhi, Chennai, Dhaka, Chittagong. When a “brown” person does something inappropriate, that induces defamation for all brown people. They have done or are doing many other things that are not acceptable in Canadian society, and there are some things that are crimes under the law.
As a result, the esteem for “brown” people throughout Canada eroded. Reddit and other social media popular in Canada are eavesdropping on discussions, with locals repeatedly discussing how the behavior of the “foreign students”, “Indian students”, “brown boys” is affecting the social and cultural atmosphere of Canada in general . The overall result is that the respect of “Browns” in society is declining. This is also a reason for the immigrants leaving Canada.
